Volunteer
Committee Volunteers
Valley Free Radio is an all volunteer-run station that relies on the energy and diversity of community members to keep it alive and on the air. There are numerous ways to get involved in VFR. A good place to start is by contacting our various committees or attending a meeting.
Programmer Volunteers
The mission of Valley Free Radio is to offer programming that serves the needs of the surrounding community in all its diversity. Everyone has the opportunity to join and participate in VFR and its different groups or collectives. Inclusion and commitment to the community are the guiding principles that insure that all applicants will enjoy VFR rights and responsibilities including access to air time through the programming collectives. If you need help anywhere along the way, you can talk to someone in the programming committee or to your collective leader.
Here’s what you do to get yourself or something on the air:
- Write a programming proposal or come to an interview of the programming committee.
- Decide which collective or group to join with help from the programming committee. After joining a group, you will be expected to contribute to VFR with all the other members by donating two off-air work hours each month.
- Learn about becoming a member of Valley Free Radio from your group or collective. You must come to one meeting per month and learn how we make decisions.
- On Air Training. Learn how to use the equipment from your collective and come to one interview with your group to talk about your radio ideas. Contact vfrtraining@gmail.com for information on upcoming training sessions.
- Come to four on air sit-in practice sessions.
- Write your final proposal with help from your collective.
- Meet with the programming committee and talk about how you can best contribute to VFR.
- Work with your collective to get time on the air or produce your own program. Please email the programming committee if you want to find out more.
