Congrats to everyone who overcame the forces of the dark side. We’ve been doing the Bush Countdown on The Enviro Show since VFR came on the air over three years ago. Now, with only weeks to go before Darth Cheney and the boy emperor slip into the dustbin of history (unless, of course, some “event” requires them to declare marshal law and suspend the Constitution), we can finally see the light at the end of the long, long tunnel. And guess what: the light we see is not an oncoming train! No, it’s the light of hope; something we almost lost during the Bush era.

If you heard last night’s Enviro Show you may have caught the reference to the “Gallactic Federation” supposedly making contact with us sorry humans here on planet Earth yesterday. Of course we had our collective tongue deeply embedded in our collective cheek when we spoke about it, but hey: if it takes aliens to save us from the Repugnicans and the corporados, so be it! Well, sad to say, magical thinking time is over. No alien contact that we can find (and D.O.’s been monitoring real-time satellite cameras on Earth). Guess we’ll just have to save the planet ourselves. That means it’s up to us and YOU, dear listener.

We didn’t have time to get into much depth on the financial meltdown or the Bush Billionaire Bailout during the show last Tuesday ‘cuz of call-ins on mountain top removal and King Coal. Now that the Dem and Repugnican leadership in congress have sold-out the people and bailed out the corporados I thought I’d recommend Rober Reich’s blog and this segment of last week’s Democracy Now.
