Greetings Earthlings. We are fresh back from the front in the non-violent struggle against the corporados. D.O. & Jean will report back on their trip to both the #OccupyWallStreet and #OccupyBoston. Also, our roving reporter, Tom Neilson will report back from the DC Occupation of Freedom Plaza, then we remind everyone that the rape of the forests and the fouling of the biosphere is all about Corporate America with Chris Matera of Mass Forest Watch who joins us once again to connect the dots. As always we venture into our E-Valley-uation segment, the Enviro Show Echo Chamber and visit the Fool-on-the-hill, but first it’s time for…Revenge of the Critters! Human rights? How about bats rights!

In The Enviro Show Echo Chamber we note The New York Times has discovered the importance of forests. How’s that for hard-nosed reporting! Of course, we have to give them some credit for their front page, above the fold coverage of the Wall Street Occupation….but only some. And speaking of New York, how about YOU send Mayor Bloomberg and Police Commissioner Kelly a note reminding them about the First Amendment? And this from Grist: UK activist denied entry into The States due to super glue attack on Obama!

In our E-Valley-uation segment we send out kudos to the folks who Occupied Northampton and Occupied Amherst. Who knows, maybe we’ll even consider OccupiedQuabbin!

This week’s Fool-on-the-Hill goes plural. GOP members of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee get to wear the Fool’s cap for their opposition to a proposed regulation that would restrict the transportation and importation of nine types of snakes, including the Burmese Python, that are invasive and threatening to wildlife. Apparently, exotic invasives are job creators! Who knew! We thought all the snakes in the grass lying about job creation were Repugnican congressmen.

Tom Wessels, ecologist and founding director of the master’s degree program in Conservation Biology at Antioch calls-in to talk with Glen about his new book “Forest Forensics”. In the Enviro Show Echo Chamber forest activists in Russia need help in efforts to halt the construction of a highway through the Khimki forest. Moving over to Pakistan: about that horrendous flooding? Would you be surprised to learn that illegal logging was a big part of the problem? In our E-Valley-uation segment we return to the Biomess! As you may recall, folks in Western Mass were instrumental in exposing the bullshit being put out by the biomass industry. This historic foot path was once used by Native Americans as a trade route between the Connecticut and Hudson River valleys. Join Bob Leverett as he takes us to the top of Todd Mountain along the historic foot trail for a look at its old growth forests and wealth of champion trees. Bob discusses the story of the Mohawk Trail, past and present, including modern Native Americans who continue to find meaning in this place. The hike is strenuous. Greetings Earthlings. We’re all about clearcuts on today’s show, here at home and around the planet. We’ll have Chris Matera, forest activist and author of the Clearcut Massachusetts blog in the studio with us. Chris has documented some little known clearcutting taking place on public land here in the Commonwealth. Also tonight, Obama Nation! Will the new prez’ protect the planet or will he cave to the corporados? (we can hope it’s the former, yes, we can!). If time allows, we’ll run through a list of other Repugnican enemies of the Earth, members of the League of Conservation Voters’ “Dirty Dozen”, that voters threw out of Congress last Tuesday.

After Tamara tells us about the thin veil between the world of the living and that of the dead we’ll hear from Count Dracula who hits the spike on the head when he tells us there ARE far worse things than death, like the gloom and doom of the climate crisis maybe? Also: vote “yes” on Question 6 if it’s on your ballot, which would put pressure on local representatives to support legislation mandating an 80 percent reduction of greenhouse emissions in Massachusetts by 2020 – 30 years sooner than more popular national measures. It would also phase out tax incentives for non-renewable energy projects and put focus on localized sustainability.

Tom Neilson puts on his roving reporter’s hat and phones in from the heartland to talk about the proposed dumping of coal ash on farm land (what a concept!). We have a peek at local clearcutting facilitated by the Commonwealth (in their infinite wisdom!) and, as always, we give you the Enviro Show Quote of the Week, a visit with Darth Cheney and the boy emperor (both of whom experienced some un-welcomed rebellion on July 4 ), but first it’s time for……Revenge of the Critters! Slug epidemic in the UK!

Since it’s the Grab Bag Enviro Show we thought we’d reference this past national holiday and the Bush regime’s schemes for more war with “Army Nation” by the Boston band, Girl on Top. That’ll take us to The Enviro Show Quote of the Week: A year ago, Barack Obama compared “the tyranny of oil” to that of Fascism saying, “The very resource that has fueled our way of life over the last hundred years now threatens to destroy it if our generation does not act now and act boldly.” We assume such bold action does not include making war on Iran. How about a War on Corporados?

There it is again! Glen, is it over now?? Looks like the boy emperor caught some flak on his July 4 visit to Tomas Jefferson’s house! Meanwhile, here in the birthplace of Independence, Darth Cheney got a similar reception on the Fourth of July. So much for the good news, on to the Bush regimes usual misdeeds, like for instance White House tries to keep EPA from showing how greenhouse gases could be regulated. And this, Former EPA official talks about White House’s unwillingness to regulate greenhouse gas emissions. No!

Dr. Lee Frelich, director of the Center for Hardwood Ecology at the University of Minnesota joins us to discuss things like the European Earthworm invasion…yes, you heard me right, it’s not some “B” sci-fi flick AND it’s coming to a forest near you! Speaking of invasions, we’ll check-in with Darth Cheney and the boy emperor to see what sort of dastardly deeds they’ve been up to and we’ll do a perusal of the news in the Enviro Show Echo Chamber, but first (you gussed it!) it’s time for…..Revenge of the Critters! Screwed by worms!.

The Enviro Show Quote of the Week comes from none other than Rachel Carson. Tune in for those words of wisdom. Then: there’s that chilling sound again! Glen, how much longer will this torture go? Finally, we echo the good work of the Native Forest Network in their struggle to prevent the Plum Creek corporados from turning Maine’s Great North woods into some sort of yuppie playground. Development….it’s a threat, who’d a thunk it??

“Earthworms” by Andrea Bunch from “Numinous” takes us to our interview with Lee Frelich. So we talked about some of the threats to the Northern Forest coming from slimeballs like Plum Creek, let’s see about those worms.
