Programming Committee 10.09.08 * sorry for the delay

Keely apologizes that these minutes were NOT posted last month

Present: Eddy Kennedy, Linda Kennedy,Keely Malone, Butch Bouchard, susan seymour, derek Goodwin, Lila Wolan-Jedziniak, Bush I

Profanity:
We got a message about profanities that was probably a joke.  Vincent is no more because of profanities.  Issue put to rest. Standards are better.  People are more aware.
Peter Sky is suspended for no shows.  Knowing that folks are listening has helped people to be responsible about their shows.
If people tell us if they can’t make it and make appropriate arrangements the consequences don’t follow. People are signing in and attendance has improved.

Also, Tamara, the house witch, returns to these microphones to set the seasonal mood, as well as Betsy Dumont, a local bat expert from the Department of Biology at UMass Amherst, but first it’ time for…… Revenge of the Critters! Writer’s Voice 05/01/08: Nicholson Baker’s HUMAN SMOKE

Host Francesca Rheannon talks with Nicholson Baker about his acclaimed new book, HUMAN SMOKE: The Beginnings of World War II; The End of Civilization.
In a departure from his usual genre, fiction, Baker turns his eye for telling detail to an examination of the cavalier disregard for the human consequences of war by leaders on all sides of the conflict. We hear about how Churchill’s warmongering and Roosevelt’s anti-Semitism exacerbated the war’s civilian toll. We also hear of the courage of a few who dared to speak against the headlong rush to battle.
