The Save the Land Enviro Show

Greetings Earthlings. Will developers fill every last acre with condos, McMansions and malls? Carol Gray of the South Amherst Conservation Association joins us to talk about saving the former Rock Farm on South East Street in Amherst, an environmentally rich piece of land threatened by a proposed high density development of 17 luxury condos (just what Amherst needs: more condos!). The Globe spins in our E-Valley-uation segment and it’s Obama’s bad in “Meet the New Boss”. Also, The Enviro Show Echo Chamber defers to The Daily Show while the Quote of the Week gets dragged out from beneath the Wayback machine, but first it’s time for…… Revenge of the Critters! Leech attack. Gardeners beware! Better wear eye protection.

We weren’t able to air the report on right wing talk radio from PBS’ Bill Moyers Journal of 072409. That report will air next week. On 0728 we aired an update from the Journal on the Administrations’ attempts to reform healthcare featuring Marcia Angel, Senior Lecturer in the Dept of Social Medicine from Harvard and the first women Editor in Chief of the New England of Medicine and Trudy Lieberman who covers healthcare for the Columbia Journalism review. The panel explained Obama’s attempt to get anything meaningful enacted before Congress’ August recess is unlikely to suceed. They said that the U.S. spends up to three times in gross dollars on healthcare as the average “advanced country” and stated that the amount of for profit dollars in the U.S. system was part of the problem and suggested as a model a “Single Payer” system similar to Canada’s. A Baha’i Perspective 07.25.2009

Warren Odess-Gillett interviews Steve Hemingway. Steve describes himself as growing up to become a “marginal” man – not completely integrated with his surroundings. His first encounter with Baha’is was when he was 20 years old returning from England on board a boat in 1957. On the boat were Baha’is returning from the funeral of Shoghi Effendi, the Guardian of the Baha’i Faith. Steve has a number of websites. He mentions his work with laughing yoga, that site is SpiritOfLaughter.com. His website promoting his writing is SLHemingway.com. And the website for his music is SLHemingway.Homestead.com.
