VFR Board Mtg Minutes 12.2.08
Members Present: Eddie Kennedy, Linda Kennedy, Tony Shannon, Strong Oak, Fidel Hidalgo, Matt Dineen, Bushi Harvey Ahmai, and Katherine Reason.
Others Present: Andy Sewell, Ed Russell, Bill Weye, Dana Prescott, and Steve Cutting.
Meeting was called to order at 7:05pm.
1. Board Vacancies: Bob Gardner has resigned from Valley Free Radio. Tony Shannon has volunteered to do the bookkeeping. Matt Dineen is leaving in January as he is relocating to Philadelphia. The Nominating Committee of Steve Cutting, Mary Wheelan and Ed Russell will be accepting nominations prior to the December General Meeting with a vote to be taken at the January meeting.
2. Commonwealth Center for Change: Matt has asked ‘3C’ to come to our General Meeting in January to make a presentation about the space they are developing on the corner of Bliss and Nonotuck Streets in Florence. On Friday of this week at noon there will be a tour of the space with their Executive Director David Simpson. Any one who is available may participate. An alternate time will be arranged for a weekend tour.
3. VFR Funds: Tony reported that we have a present balance of $6,377.94. It costs approximately $1200 a month to run the station. Tony was asked to obtain all VFR books/records as soon as possible.
4. Fundraising Committee: Matt will arrange for a new chair of this committee.
5. Expanding Underwriting: Presently accept underwriting of syndicated shows from collectives. Plan is to expand to local businesses. Matt will bring a proposal to expand underwriting to the General Meeting.
6. Bylaws: It was agreed that the ‘temporary’ bylaws need to be reviewed and brought up to date. It was agreed that a small committee of Matt, Bushi and Linda would go over the bylaws and report back to the Board.
7. Promotions Committee: Andy reported that the committee is working on a packaging/branding/marketing scheme. The next meeting is set for 5pm at the WoodStar Café the same day as the General Meeting.
8. Holiday Party: It was agreed that there would be a holiday party on Tuesday, December 16, 7pm at the Evolution Café on Chestnut Street in Florence. It will be pot luck, BYOB. There will be a planning meeting on December 14 at 3pm at the Studio.
9. SORI Checks: The Board agreed that it will look into having everyone at VFR undergo a SORI check. This would be used as a public safety tool.
