Board Nominee Bios
Diana Coryat
I am passionate about community media, and have over two decades of
experience working in the field. With a BFA from New York University’s
Tisch School of the Arts, and an MA in Communication from the University of
Massachusetts at Amherst, I began my media career as a documentary filmmaker
and television producer. In 1991, I founded Global Action Project, an
internationally recognized social justice media organization. I have
designed and facilitated media programs, workshops and screenings for youth
and adults nationally and internationally.

Last year, I spent 6 months in Colombia. I taught a course called “Community
Media in the Americas” and engaged in exchanges with community media groups
across the country. It was amazing to see the vibrancy of local radio in another context.
I have been living in the Valley part-time since 2000, and will become a
full-time resident in December 2008. I’m anxious to continue to work with
community media in the area. Though I have much more experience in video,
I’m a long time supporter of community radio. I was once a guest on VFR,
and brought my young people from New York to participate in the program. It
was a great exerience.

What I would bring to the Board – Board experience – having served on G.A.P.’s Board
since its inception, a global perspective on media and progressive politics, experience
with organizational development, fundraising and outreach, and years as a media educator.
I am interested in making media accessible to young people and other groups/perspectives
that are invisible in mainstream media, such as immigrants.
