Programming Committee Meeting 5/8/08

Attended: Strong Oak, Megha Arraj, Linda Kennedy, Eddie Kennedy, Lila Wolan, Bob Gardner, Keely Malone, Derek Goodwin, Tony Udell, Bush I Harvey

Absent with excuse: Tony Shannon and Alan Vogel

I. Website

Bill Weye would like as many programmers as possible to blog on the new site.  Please ask your programmers to participate and let them know that Bill has sent out the “how to” email several times over the announce and discussion list (on 4/29 and again on 5/10)

II. New Proposals

A. Leif is interested in a night slot to produce a show which will feature music such as  Drum and Bass interwoven with various interviews.  He will get first pick of the following slots as he has already been to all trainings, a general membership meeting and is currently working on fundraising.  He is being offered Sat 6-8pm, Sun 10-Midnight, Mon, Tues, or Weds 11pm-1am.

B. Mav is interested in producing a World, Soul, and R&B Music show.  We are going to offer her the  Diversity in Motion  (update on Diversity in Motion in Item IV) slot alternating every other week with Words Soul and Power Fridays 1-3pm.

C. Ivan and Antonio would like to produce an early 90’s Hip Hop show.  They have attended all trainings and are being offered whatever slots Lief doesn’t pick from the Sun 10-Midnight, Mon, Tues, or Weds 11pm-1am choices.

III Schedule Changes

A. Active Ingredients will move to 6:30-7:30 and Sprouts will play 7:30-8pm on Mondays

B. Americana Shack is switching to Wed 2-4pm and Relatively Beyond is switching to Thurs 1-3pm

C. Say What! is expanding tp a full 2 hour show Thurs 3-5pm

D. The Nightclub is switching to Sunday 8-10pm as of June1st

E. Sings in the Night is taking the Nightclubs old slot Sat 8-10pm as of May31st

F. Mass Transition is moving to Sat 10pm-Midnight as of May24th, as we haven’t even received an acknowledgment or an explanation from Mike Dumont (who previously programmed in this slot, and is currently on suspension for numerous station policy violations)

G. Tony Udell will begin playing Geurilla/Commie music in the hour before his show on Johana’s off weeks as he believes he loses listeners when automation kicks in for that hour every other week.  He will gladly stop doing this if and when this slot is filled.

IV. Attendance Problems

A. Raul Matta has not programmed Diversity in Motion for at least one month.  The attendance Policy has been sent to him, but Megha has yet to receive any explanation.  If nothing is heard and an additional show is missed, the 30 day suspension will take affect.

B. Jay Borgess has contacted the committee to say that he cannot do his show for the foreseeable future.  He has asked that we hold his spot.  It was decided that the slot would be held for Spanish Language programming and that Spanich syndication would run.  We are hoping to find a fluent Spanish speaker to record a PSA that will play in that slot recruiting Spanish speaking programmers.  If the slot is filled we will work with Jay in the future to find him a new slot.  If it is not filled he can submit a proposal to come back to the station.

V. Non-Commercial FCC Regulations

A. Keely raised the issue as she has heard a couple of violations on Glen Brooks show Vibrant Living.  All programmers are to be reminded that they CANNOT give out the price of ANY product or service.  It was also requested that plugs of websites or books be limited to 1-2 times and always presented as a reference-Not a commercial.  It was also requested that programmers NOT plug programs that they have on other local station, as this detracts from VFR listenership. Keely will email Glenn

VI. Board Report Back

A. The new lock will go into effect MAY 17th.  All programmers should contact their liaison to get the new code.

B. Fidel has created a final list of all programmers and what their assigned job is!  It will be emailed to all liaisons.  There has been Board discussion as to how we know if people are doing it?  There has been research on costly software that could track work done, but Eddie suggests a good ‘ol pen and paper–Work Log where people sign off on what they’ve done.

The next Programming Meeting is Thursday June 12th at 7pm at the station.
