Programming Committee Meeting Minutes January 2008

(sorry no attendance records)

January 2008 Programming Meeting Minutes

1) There are currently NO trainings for new programmers/new VFR members
a) Until we can get regular open houses happening again the Programming Committee will email the liaison, and the liaison will find someone within the appropriate collective to mentor/train new people.
b) There is a definite benefit to having an official open house because Tony gives a great schpeel about the history of VFR and our mission statement (Correction we found out that Tony WAS and STILL IS doing open houses Every First Sunday of the month–he didn’t do ONE in December–proof how ill the “telephone” game can be!!)
c) In the near future we may create a member handbook that includes the history and mission information

2)The new program proposal applications are now available online and in hard copy in the studio. a) One new addition maybe to ask new people what they would be able/willing to do for their volunteer hours

3) An ad went up on Craigslist asking for volunteers and people have been responding. We need a “Volunteer Coordinator” to create a centralized list of tasks and people.
a)Ideas for what volunteers could do: flyer, pass out stickers, screen music CDs for FCC violations, Stand in busy intersections with signs that read “Are you tuned in to 103.3 Valley Free Radio?”, solicit performers that come through town to record station IDs, record PSAs, staff the studio (answer phones)
b)Megha and Josh (Chairs of Programming Committee) have finalized the new schedule and so flyers with up to date schedules can now be made. It was also suggested that Collectives make flyers highlighting their Collective’s shows

4)It has come to our attention that people are not showing up for their show and/or not signing the LOG Book!! The Log Book is a FCC regulation. If you haven’t signed we will assume you didn’t show up and the procedure for No Call/ No Show will ensue (see item #9 below). Even if you automate your show YOU MUST SIGN the LOG BOOK!!

5)There was discussion about creating a monthly VFR newsletter (for our listeners/donors) each collective will be responsible for writing one paragraph-any budding journalist amongst our N&P Collective???

6)There was a lengthy discussion about whether the schedule should be Blocked or Not Blocked (meaning like programs run in similar time slots all week long)
It was concluded that Block Scheduling has been abandoned in the recent months but that the Programming Committee will begin to slow work back towards Blocking with new program proposals but that NO existing show will be shifted around.

7)Democracy Now will not be shifting to 5pm, due to listener feedback and the fact that FSRN isn’t available until after 5pm. It was decided that DN pulls listeners in earlier in the day and hopefully they stay tuned in into the evening.

8)If any current programmers need/want to change their time-slot they should contact their Liaison
All schedule changes will be approved at the Programming Meetings.

***9) The official VFR Policy around missing your show is as follows:***
If you miss/skip 1 show you can have your slot revoked!!
This means that you MUST find a programmer within your liaison to cover for you, automate a previously aired show, ask someone to automate something on your behalf.

Remember NOT signing the LOG BOOK will now be assumed as a missed/skipped show!!

10) oh yeah and the combination will be changed as of Feb 1st email me for the new #s (a few of you have already, but I fear many of you might be out in the cold!!)
