Programming Comittee Minutes 3.13.08

IN ATTENDANCE: Nick Curley, Steve Cutting, Annalise Fonza, Derek
Goodwin, Fidel Hidalgo, Linda Kennedy, Eddie Kennedy, Keely Malone,
Katherine Reason, Josh Vrysen, Mary Wheelan, and Lila Wolan.

PROGRAM PROPOSALS: Three program proposals were submitted by new
programmers. These proposals tentatively passed: the programmers-to-
be will now be presented time slot options and attend the appropriate
training sessions. These programs in brief include a noise/
experimental music program, a series in which radio dramas/theatrical
pieces will be performed on air, and a combination news/music program
to be hosted by a father-son pairing from Ware, MA.

CONTACT SHEETS: Liaisons are assembling up-to-date lists of contact
info for programmers in an effort to prepare for May 1st’s forthcoming
changes to the schedule, and in coordination with the Operations
committee’s efforts to coordinate volunteer tasks to fulfill each
programmer’s two required hours of off-air volunteer work for the
station.

TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES: Jose Tolson is offering to train programmers
in studio Wednesdays 6-8pm. A second session will be offered by
Warren Odess-Gillett at a time to be announced. In particular, studio
managers will be needed in studio from 4-5pm on weekdays beginning May
1st.

UPDATE ON DEMOCRACY NOW/FREE SPEECH RADIO NEWS: The scheduling of each
weekday has now been revised to incorporate the change in time slots
of DN and FSRN beginning May 1st.

NEW POSITION CREATED: Eddie Kennedy has volunteered to be the interim
VFR Weekly Programming Log Overseer, a role in which the volunteering
member will go through the logs once a week to ensure they are being
kept correctly. Records will be kept accordingly: programmers must
fill out the program log in full for each of their shows in order for
Programming to verify the programmer’s attendance.

FORM FOR LIAISONS PRESENTED: Board member and programmer Tony Shannon
has submitted a “VFR Liaison Issue Form”, which will be used to
document any programming issues so as to create records for liaisons
to refer to and address in forthcoming Programming meetings. This
document will be available to all in the station’s Google documents.

NEW SHOW ATTENDANCE POLICY: A referendum on show attendance policy was
discussed: the Programming Coordinators will put this policy into
writing and post it into our Google groups prior to this Wednesday’s
General Membership meeting. In part, the proposal will state that if
a programmer fails to show up for their program without finding a
replacement or automating a program for their slot, they are required
to attend the next Programming meeting to discuss said absence with
the committee. At that time the committee will access the future of
said program.

WINTER SOLDIER BROADCAST: A rally being held by Iraq and Afghani
veterans in Washington DC this weekend is tentatively scheduled to be
played during automation next weekend, provided that the recordings
are FCC compliant or may be edited to become so.
