Radical Mental Health Show 1 Year Old!
The weds 6-7pm Mental Health Show has been on the air since VFR’s very first week of operation. The show focuses on interviews with people diagnosed with mental illness labels like schizophrenia, bipolar, borderline and obsessive-compulsive, as well as organizers, activists, and writers from the world of madness and mental health outside the mainstream. Will Hall and organizers with the Freedom Center, a local mental health support and advocacy group, produce and host the show.
Past guests have included Kate Bornstein, Tim Wise, Darby Penney, Paula Caplan, John Judge, Robert Whitaker, Ellen Hayes, Aby Adams, Oryx Cohen, Chaya Grossberg, and Bruce Levine.
Topics have included self-injury, shamanism, living with a bipolar diagnosis, peer support, how to go off psychiatric drugs, poetry, suicide, activism in England, paranoia, living with a schizophrenia diagnosis, Hurricane Katrina, environmental illness, acupuncture, forced drugging, racism, lucid dreaming, CIA mind control experments, legislative activism, state hospitals, “violent mental patients,” pharmaceutical company corruption, torture in Romania, anti-oppression therapy, and trauma.
