Programming Committee Minutes 9-18-06
Minutes from 18 Sep06
VFR Programming Meeting
Attendance:
Erika Marquez, Alex Peterson, Laura Minnick, Dan Koiodzinski, Aaron Archambeault, Emma Rose Silverman, Cathy Santosus, Don Blair, Jake Wheeler, Mary Wheelan, Chris Tinson, Lila Wolan, Carson Cistulli, annalise fonza (Minutes submitted by Carson Cistulli).
Announcements:
*Mary announced a Bluegrass workshop (Origins of Bluegrass Music) to take place September 23rd at 1PM, 141 Main St in Haydenville MA.
*annalise shared the VFR Board’s statement that all unofficial (non-committee) VFR email lists and such be marked as UNOFFICIAL.
annalise proposed that the list-serve created by Cathy S., which is currently operating in as VFRProgrammingList@googlegroups.com, not use the Programming Committees name to avoid confusion and division. she moved further that the name of this list, set up by Cathy, be changed and/or dissolved. The committee voted (four to one) to affirm this proposal.
*annalise clarified that she had set up a Programming List with Google Groups, but did not feel it was the best option given the current circumstances. annalise indicated that a moderated programming list serve would be forthcoming from the Programming Committee (annalise will work with Anthony Ratcliff to make this happen), but that the current list will be used until then.
*Cathy S stated she would ignore the decision of the committee and that she would very probably appeal the committee’s decision.
Proposals for New Shows:
*Emma proposed a show of songs with themes (cities or colors, for example). The committee suggested meeting with liaisons from the Eclectic and/or Free Form collectives.
*Laura proposed a show which would play “retro-style” music, preferably after 1100p. B-sides would be more the rule than the exception. The committee suggested collaboration with the Indie Collective.
*Don and Jake proposed, This American Life, featuring local personalities. The committee suggested the Pueblos and/or Community Radio Collectives (E. Marquez and Cathy S. affirmed these possibilities).
Proposals for Extant Shows:
*Cathy proposed that the Youth Collective be allotted 3 additional hours (it currently has two hours). She indicated that one additional hour is urgently needed for the time being, while the other 2 could be considered later.
*Chris from Trggr Radio has requested a change of day/time to an evening slot after 6pm. They also wish to incorporate Hard Knock Radio into the time.
*The Sports Collective would like to change their time.
*annalise suggested that these potential programming changes could be discussed in an ad hoc committee and/or worked out between collectives in the absence of the Subcommittee on Scheduling and Collective Formation.
Other Business:
*Alex passed around the current online schedule from the webmaster. Each programmer was asked to edit the form accordingly.
*At the next General Meeting, Emily Miller will be proposing a retreat to address the VFR volunteer crisis. She has proposed that all live programming be suspended, and that deejays show-up to the studio during regular programming hours to engage in the retreat. This retreat, therefore, will take place at the studio during regular programming hours. She has proposed that all live programming be suspended so that members can take part in the retreat. No deejay will be required to come to the station/retreat during off-air hours.
*annalise distributed the results of the collective inventory form (contact annalise for the form). Please note that the list is not complete and the current numbers may not reflect a complete and/or accurate count of djs and programs (i.e., there are duplicates and omissions). annalise will pass the list on to the new members elected to the Subcommittee on Scheduling and Collective Formation and the Board for further review.
*The names of those persons who have indicated an interest in serving on the Subcommittee on Scheduling and Collective Formation will be posted online as soon as possible. The election for this committee will take place during a Programming Committee meeting (possibly the next one).
Next Meeting
*The next meeting is scheduled for 03 October 2006 at 7:00p.
