October 3, 2006

Announcements:
annalise announced that she would be gathering an ad-hoc committee before the next PC meeting to discuss programming requests made in previous meetings (e.g. Youth Collective, the Hip-Hop Collective, and the Sports Collective).
Collective Business/Old Business:
–TRGGR Radio wants to switch time with the Indie collective from Fridays 10-midnight to Tuesdays from 2-4pm. A certain programmer is currently doing a show 10 PM-2 AM Fridays. He has indicated to annalise that he is in the Indie Collective. The Programming Committee discussed allegations of FCC violations and drinking alcohol in the studio during his program. annalise and Lila have attempted to contact him in the last month, but there has been no response to meet in person to discuss the potential time-swap. Lila, the Indie Collective liaison, indicated that she did not have much success by email, but she will call him to address the time-change issue. annalise will contact him to discuss the FCC issue and the reports of drinking in the studio. Sara indicated that a free-form programmer might be interested in deejaying the Tuesday afternoon slot if it becomes available.
–Sara Jaffe asked if it would be possible to play Freeform-themed automation during the Freeform time slots where there are currently no programmers. She’ll work on it with Alex.
–Erika Marquez (Pueblos) wants to play Latino USA instead of 2.5 solid hours of Spanish news on Saturdays. It is unclear if it’s okay (legal) to rebroadcast an NPR show. Erika will follow-up on this issue.
–Update on where Anthony’s at with list of programmers: he and Annalise will work on updating current programmer info and a moderated list serve to be utilized by/for the PC. This is important step for the Programming Committee and for the Volunteer Task Force.
–Carson Cistulli made it known that the Sports Collective is currently under the Labor Collective umbrella on Monday mornings. The Sports Collective desires to have an official Sports Collective slot very soon. annalise suggested that this matter be cleared up with an ad-hoc committee.
–People seem to not be using the electronic playlists. They should be encouraged to, and also advised to not save over the template.
–Lila announced that there will soon be a new Local/Indie show called Blue Lulu on Thursdays from 11 PM-1 AM (Laura Minnick will produce this program).
–Bush-I discussed changes in his collective personnel. Some might do once/month shows. Also, he is interested in putting together some content from visits at the Hampshire Correctional.
–Andrew Jilani says that his collective, the Local Affairs Collective, is seeking a guru and more members. Andrew has a program on Saturday afternoons from 3-4pm.
New Business:
–Eric Nash requested that Democracy Now be moved from 4:30-5:30p to 5-6p, to make things easier for station managers. The automation computer operated in one-hour increments. This will mean that we can’t play Free Speech Radio News in the afternoon for the time being. OpComm would like to figure out what could be broadcast from 4:30-5p, possibly Flashpoints. The Programming Committee okayd the Democracy Now change and the temporary FSRN suspension and/or change. annalise suggested that Studio Managers produce a PSA to inform the listeners accordingly.
–annalise proposed a change in the Programming Committee meeting schedule to one meeting per month. Concerns were raised about availability, thus, Cathy suggested alternating Mondays and Tuesdays, every other month. annalise added that additional and/or ad-hoc meetings could be scheduled as needed. The PC decided to alternate these once a month meetings between Mondays and Tuesdays. Next meeting is scheduled for Monday, November 13. annalise will follow up with MEF.
–Patty McGill, the Chief Operating Officer, has initiated a Volunteer Task Force proposal. There will be more discussion about this proposal at the next General Meeting, which is currently scheduled for Wednesday, October 18. For more information and/or input email Patty at mcgill@gw.housing.umass.edu.
–The following programmers have indicated an interest in running for the Subcommittee on Scheduling and Collective Formation:
Lila Wolan, Chris Tinson, Cathy Santosus, Suzan Seymour, JJ Anderson, Mike Griffin, Marla BB, Carson Cistulli, and possibly Erika Marquez. Elections for this committee may take place at the next Programming Committee meeting. All additional nominations can be made by emailing annalise at fireinbones@hotmail.com, and/or nominations will be accepted during the next Programming Committee meeting.
N/B: PLEASE NOTE THAT THE MEF COMMUNITY ROOM IS NOT AVAILABLE, MONDAY, NOVEMBER 13TH. HOWEVER, THE PROGRAMMING COMMITTEE HAS RESERVED THE ROOM FOR TWO DATES IN NOVEMBER. THE DATES ARE: MONDAY, NOVEMBER 6 AND MONDAY, NOVEMBER 20. MORE INFORMATION TO COME.
