Special Announcement from Board of Directors

On Sunday August 20th an issue of the Valley War Bulletin was found in the Master Control Room of the Valley Free Radio with Swastikas marked on the foreheads of several VFR members/programmers, including one woman and one person of color. As the Board of Valley Free Radio, we consider this outrageous behavior, highly offensive, and racist/anti-Semitic. We also have to consider this a potential hate crime, as the defacement of people with such a violent symbol can be viewed as a threat, or a form of intimidation. Given that possibility, we have reported this incident to the Northampton Police Dept., who will be issuing a report within several days. We cannot stress strongly enough to all volunteers, members and programmers that this is not tolerable behavior, and that any perpetrator of such activities risk their membership in the VFR community and criminal prosecution. We further call upon all elements of the VFR community to address the underlying ignorance, bigotry and crass insensitivity that led to these actions, and to find ways to support the safety and security of all our members.

Unanimously approved by the VFR Board of Directors
