Programming Committee Minutes: 8/15/06

Attending: Lila Wolan, Alisa Klein, Frances Crowe, Ed Russell, Holly Leonard, Erika Marquez, Mary Wheelan, Strong Oak, Don Blair, annalise

Lila and annalise took minutes.

Announcements and Collective Biz:
• Strong Oak provided feedback on training session. annalise will contact Board with concerns.
• War and Peace: Lost two programmers last month. New program coming – Good News-People Power will air 2x/month: global news stories; positive effects of people making change. EC2WB will remain at 2x/month.
• Pueblos: Mambo Tango wishes to reduce time from Sat. 1-3 to Sat 1-2. Replace 2-3pm Saturdays with “Informativo Pacifica”?? – News in Spanish from Latin American community radio stations.
• Native American programming: Strong Oak will produce first broadcast on August 26!!
• Sports Collective: Would like to change broadcast time to Sunday. PC recommends selecting News and Public Affairs block. annalise will follow-up.
• Swimming with Sharks (Bill Childs) will be moving to alternating Tuesdays (need clarification on start date; perhaps August 24?). Wings and Drug Truth will remain on Tuesdays and Thursdays respectively.

New Proposals:
• David Pakman contacted annalise about pre-empting programming on November 7, 2006 for live election coverage. Request for formal proposal and more discussion was requested by the Committee.
• Holly Leonard, a trainer and nutritionist, made proposal to start an educational program on fitness and nutrition. Discussed possibilities with various collectives. annalise will provide a contact for Holly.
• War and Peace Collective: Made proposal for either a twelve-hour marathon on the Israel/Lebanon conflict for next week. Maybe August 24th? PC reviewed draft of pre-emption policy that was proposed last spring. Alisa will follow-up .
with annalise.
• Alisa inquired about outreach efforts. Will follow up with Suzan Seymour.

Special Programming (Weds 1-2PM):
• Perhaps “Sing About It” with Johanna (War & Peace collective)? annalise will follow-up.

Sub-Committee on Scheduling and Formation:

• PC will review collective inventory sheets (due August 18th). Based on the sheets turned in thus far, one programmer has indicated an interest in the SubCom.
• PC targeted September 8, 2006, to reconvene the Subcommittee on Collective Formation and Scheduling.

Next meeting Tuesday, September 5, 2006 at 7:00PM. Meeting to be held at Media Education Foundation, 60 Masonic Street, Northampton.
